 Medical Services

Richland Medical Center, offers a full range of medical services from cardiac tests to ultrasounds. If you have any questions concerning if we offer a service, please contact us. If we don't, often our next door neighbor, the Richland Hospital does. Here are a few of the numerous medical tests available for our patients.

ECG /EKG Services

An electrocardiogram is a painless, noninvasive way to diagnose many common types of heart disease. Your doctor may use an ECG to detect irregularities in your heart rhythm, structural abnormalities in your heart, or problems with the supply of blood and oxygen to your heart. An ECG can also confirm if you're having a heart attack or if you've had a heart attack in the past.

Holter Monitoring

Also known as an ambulatory ECG monitor, a Holter monitor records your heart rhythms for an entire 24-hour period. Wires from electrodes on your chest go to a battery-operated recording device carried in your pocket or worn on a belt or shoulder strap. While you're wearing the monitor, you'll keep a diary of your activities and symptoms. Your doctor will compare the diary with the electrical recordings to help determine what triggers your symptoms.

Event recording

If your symptoms are infrequent, your doctor may suggest wearing an event recorder. This device is similar to a Holter monitor, but it allows you to record an ECG just when the symptoms are happening. You can send the ECG readings to your doctor through the phone line.

Doppler Services

This test uses reflected sound waves to evaluate blood as it flows through a blood vessel. It helps doctors evaluate blood flow through the major arteries and veins of the arms, legs, and neck. It can show blocked or reduced blood flow through narrowing in the major arteries of the neck that could cause a stroke. It also can reveal blood clots in leg veins (deep vein thrombosis, or DVT) that could break loose and block blood flow to the lungs (pulmonary embolism).

Treadmill tests for Cardiology

Treadmill test or exercise test) in which a continuous electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) recording of the heart is made as the patient performs increasing levels of exercise on the treadmill which is tilted to produce the effect of going up a small hill. The patient can stop the test at any time, if necessary. Afterwards the patient has heart and blood pressure checked.

There is very little risk in taking the test in healthy persons -- no more than if a person walks fast or jogs up a big hill. Medical professionals should be present in case something unusual happens during the test.

The exercise treadmill test screens for the presence of narrowed coronary arteries that can limit the supply of oxygenated blood to the heart muscle during exercise. The test also detects abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

Bone Density Tests

A bone density is a fast and painless test. This test uses special X-rays to measure how many grams of calcium and other bone minerals — collectively known as bone mineral content — are packed into a segment of bone. The higher your mineral content, the denser your bones are. And the denser your bones, the stronger they are and the less likely they are to break. Doctors use a bone density test to determine if you have, or are at risk of, osteoporosis.

Bone density tests are not the same as bone scans. Bone scans require an injection beforehand and are usually used to detect fractures, cancer, infections and other abnormalities in the bone.

Complete Range of Gynecological Ultrasounds

  • Routine OB

  • Vaginal Ultrasounds

Spirometry

(meaning the measuring of breath ) is the most common of the Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), measuring lung function, specifically the measurement of the amount (volume) and/or speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. Spirometry is an important tool used for assessing conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, and COPD.
